How can I find and revert to my original desktop name?

I recently set up a new PC and ended up changing the default desktop name during the setup process. I really liked the original name, which was something like Desktop-NUM123X, but now I can't remember what it was. I'd like to revert back to that original name, but I'm not sure how to find it or what it was called. I know how to rename my PC, but that doesn't help if I can't recall the original name. Any tips on how to get back to that? Thanks!

You can easily check this by going to the settings. Just search for 'name' and you should find the option to view your computer name. That should also let you rename it back if you remember it! (This works for Windows 11 by the way.)

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but I specifically need that old name. I just can't remember what it exactly was!

If you’re on Windows 11, just head over to Settings and look for your Computer name right there. You can change it if you want, but I totally understand not recalling the original. It’s tricky!

That's the problem! I can rename it without a hitch, but I can't remember what it was before!

Another way is to go through the Terminal as an admin. Right-click the start menu, select 'Terminal (admin)', and use this command:

Rename-Computer -NewName "YourPreferredName" -Force -Restart

Just keep in mind you need to restart your PC afterwards. But I get it, you want that specific name back!

Thanks for the tip! But do you know if there's a way to find out what the exact original name was?
