How can I fix my CPU overheating issue when gaming?

I'm experiencing overheating with my I7-14700k CPU while playing Fortnite on max graphics settings. The temperature spikes to around 90 degrees Celsius, leading to the game crashing. I'm using an RTX 5070 GPU and H5 flow (2022) case. Currently, I've got a Kraken AIO cooler installed. I did overclock my graphics card using MSI Afterburner, but only Fortnite crashes, which makes me unsure if the GPU is the culprit.

90C is still on the high side for a 14th-gen CPU. Make sure you removed the film from the AIO. If so, consider reapplying thermal paste—you might not have applied enough or it might not be spread correctly. You could also look into some undervolting to help manage the temps.

Try removing the overclock if you haven't already. If the crashes stop, then it’s likely related to your overclock settings. If it still crashes, check your game settings; you might need to tweak them.

What model of Kraken AIO are you using? Also, did you remove the protective film on the cooler? If it’s not properly seated, it could lead to higher temperatures.

90C typically wouldn’t cause crashes. Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers installed as this could help avert performance issues. You might be facing an Intel degradation problem if your drivers aren't updated.

Are the chipset drivers directly related to the CPU? Also, what's the Intel degradation issue? I got my CPU less than a year ago.

A temperature of 90C is actually not unusual for the I7-14700k, so it shouldn't be the main issue. When you say 'crashes your game', what exactly happens? Does it freeze, or do you get booted out altogether?
