A friend dropped off a computer with the claim that it "worked great" until it just stopped turning on one day. I used to tinker with computers years ago, but I'm pretty out of touch with troubleshooting these days. What are the chances that I can get this computer working without spending a lot? I suspect it might be a power supply issue, but it's also really dusty inside, which has me worried that the problem could be more serious. Anyone have tips to get started?

Definitely grab some canned air and clean out all that dust! Target the heat sinks and fans, and don’t forget to remove memory and connectors to blow out any dust from those sockets too. You could use a clean eraser to gently clean the RAM connectors; it helps with oxidation. I recommend doing this step by step to avoid cable confusion. With all that dust in there, it’s a good idea to clean before assuming it’s a power supply issue!
First off, try removing the back panel and disconnect the battery. Then plug in the power supply and see if it turns on. If it does, power it down, reconnect the battery, and see if it boots up again. Also, don't forget to give it a good clean while you're at it!
Absolutely! Just make sure to clean it first before testing. You'll be amazed at how much dust can impact its performance.

Thanks for the detailed advice! This sounds like it might have been neglected for a while. I mentioned to my buddy that I was getting a Bluetooth keyboard to use with my phone for some work, and he probably figured this would be useful. It’s an older CyberPower PC, but hey, I have some time to spare to check it out. Appreciate your help!
