I'm running low on storage on my iMac, which has 250GB and I mainly use it for general tasks. I'm looking for suggestions on how to clear out some space or what options I have for increasing my storage. Any tips would be really appreciated!

You might want to explore iCloud storage too! It can be a good solution if you want to keep your files accessible while saving space on your device. Just remember that if you have a lot of data, you'll need to manage it carefully across both iCloud and your local storage.
It sounds like you might just need to do some basic cleanup. First, make sure you've backed up your iMac. A Time Machine backup is key because it helps with cache clearing. Once you've done that, try getting an external drive solely for backups. You could also slowly start moving files to another external drive. If you're worried about choosing the right drive, SSDs are faster but more expensive, while standard hard drives are cheaper and good enough for just storing files. You'll just need to weigh your options based on what you need more: speed or capacity.
Have you considered getting an external hard drive? They're great for offloading files and freeing up space on your Mac. You can find plenty of options online, just make sure to pick one that's reliable.
I’m not sure which one to get. Any recommendations?

I have a 1TB plan on iCloud and it works well for me. Definitely helps with storage issues!
