How can I get back into coding after a long break?

I completed a Full Stack bootcamp at a local university five years ago, but I haven't really used the skills I learned since then. I want to dive back into coding with a clearer focus this time around. The bootcamp covered Full Stack development, but I'm thinking about leaning more towards cybersecurity or backend development. I'm also curious about new fields like LLMs or general AI that I might not even be aware of yet. What do you suggest as the best way to re-enter the programming world? Are there particular programming languages or areas I should focus on? Given that I have some knowledge but lack foundational concepts, do you think it's worth going back to learn more about computer science? I appreciate any advice — I want to be well-prepared for the future. Thanks, everyone!

Just get into coding! If you’re aiming to code professionally, then start coding. It's great to do projects or solve real-life problems as part of your journey back into coding.

I’m curious about how long your bootcamp was. What’s the hardest concept you still remember? It might help in figuring out where to go next.

It was a 3-month full-time program. I picked up a bit of JavaScript and worked with React and SQL.

Jump right back in and start creating some projects! Don’t overthink the beginning; just get going. If your bootcamp was solid, you should have a toolkit for finding the right resources to match your goals. Just jump in!
