How Can I Get Printers to Mount Faster with Intune?

I've been facing a lot of challenges with printers on shared devices since transitioning to Intune. It seems to take over 30 minutes for universal printers to mount after a user logs in, which is quite frustrating. I'm looking for a faster solution for deploying printers as users log in. I've tried some workarounds, but nothing seems efficient enough. Has anyone found a good way to speed this process up?

I’ve had success by deploying printers as a Win32 user app through the company portal. This method seems to work pretty smoothly. You might have to guide users to add their own printers through settings or use an Intune policy which can take a while, but it's manageable.

I've tried that, but it feels difficult to properly deploy a universal printer unless I manually have the users search for it or go through an Intune policy. We have a lab setup so users jump around different computers, which complicates things.

What I do is ensure a universal print driver is set as a dependency for the actual printer package so it installs first. This way, it's much faster. Here's a sample of my script for setting that up.

I burned the drivers into the image and used a PowerShell script deployed as a Win32 app, and it works really well with Intune. Pretty quick too!

Are you using hybrid join? I think that could clear up my printer issues but might introduce other complexities.

Intune has been hinting at faster deployments for a while now, but if speed is what you need, you might want to consider something like PDQ Connect instead. It could be quicker and more reliable for your setup.

And how long exactly is 'soon'? Seems like it's been years of waiting!

Is Intune meant to replace Active Directory fully or something like that? Just trying to understand the direction they're heading.

Have you thought about using PrinterLogic? It's been a game changer for us; it's really quick and can often be more cost-effective than universal print solutions, depending on your volume needs.

Isn't PrinterLogic one of those solutions that adjusts printer access based on location or department? That sounds super convenient!

+1 for PrinterLogic! We use it across both Mac and Windows and it's fantastic.
