How can I get Siri to call a specific phone number from my contacts?

I have an iPhone 12 Pro, and I've noticed some contacts have multiple numbers listed, like 'work' or 'home.' However, when I ask Siri to call a specific number by saying something like 'Call [contact name], [number label],' it just defaults to calling the first number in the contact list. This has been an issue for a while, and I haven't found much information about it. Am I phrasing my request incorrectly, or is there a way to set up Siri shortcuts or manage contacts better to resolve this?

You might want to try omitting the number label when you ask Siri. Sometimes, that helps Siri recognize the multiple numbers associated with a contact and will prompt you to choose which one to call. It’s worth a shot!

Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to work in my case unless I’m messaging a group. I usually end up having to add everyone manually to get the right contact.

Siri usually works just fine with calling specific numbers. For example, I just say 'Call Mike Smith mobile' and it knows exactly what I mean. Maybe you need to try being a bit more specific or check your contact settings. It sounds like a weird glitch if it's not responding correctly for you.

Yeah, it's been like that for me too for ages. Sometimes I think it's just one of those quirks that pops up with updates.

That’s interesting! I think I’ve had those issues for a few years too. Siri doesn’t always understand the names unless they’re in a particular order, which can be super frustrating!
