Hey everyone! I recently got my hands on a 2014 Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 that's currently running Android 5.0.2. I'm looking to install a Linux distribution like Ubuntu Touch, LineageOS, or /e/. My aim is to enhance the performance of this tablet, which has 1.5GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 400 processor. Additionally, the home button seems to be broken. Essentially, I want to turn this device into a PDF reader for music sheets, do a bit of web browsing, and that's about it. I've done quite a bit of research and found that Mobian might be a good fit, but I'm a bit lost on how to actually change the operating system. I'm leaning towards /e/OS primarily because I'm excited to support a French project! If anyone has tips, resources, or even a solution, I'd really appreciate your help! If it turns out there's no viable solution, that's okay too—I'm just curious to see if I can revive this 12-year-old tablet!

If you're determined to change things up, check this wiki for PostmarketOS. It might have the info you need for your specific model. Just keep in mind that while some folks have had success with similar devices, it can be hit or miss!
Honestly, getting Linux to work on your tablet might be tricky, especially since it has an ARM processor. You might not have much luck with Linux running smoothly. However, both LineageOS and /e/ are based on Android and should be much better suited for your setup.
You can check out the distro selection page at that link. There's a ton of info out there that can guide you on choosing the right Linux version for your tablet! Just make sure to back up your data, try things out in a virtual machine first if possible, and really understand the commands before running them!
