How can I keep my HDMI splitter working without issues?

I recently got an HDMI splitter to connect my Xbox Series S to both my TV and monitor, allowing me to switch back and forth easily. I've managed to set the right aspect ratio and resolution for both displays, but when I turn one of them off, the other stops receiving a signal. Once I turn the off screen back on, both outputs have the wrong aspect ratio and resolution. Is there a way to turn my monitor off and my TV on to watch without having to reconnect cables each time?

If you're having issues with resolution when using a splitter, I suggest fixing the Xbox's resolution settings to match the highest one both displays support. This way, you avoid any confusion the splitter might have when both displays are turned on. If the monitor and TV have different resolutions, it might be better to consider a switch instead of a splitter, as switches are designed to negotiate resolutions better every time you change the connection.

It might be that your HDMI splitter isn't the best quality if it keeps losing signal. Sometimes cheaper options just don't play nicely with multiple outputs. You could try a higher-quality splitter to see if that helps.
