How Can I Lock Down Public Access Computers?

I'm managing a set of publicly available computers, primarily for printing and web browsing. These machines are used by local residents and students, and one persistent issue we face is that users frequently change settings or remain logged in after their session. While I'd prefer not to connect them to our main network, I need a way to restrict user access and maintain the systems. I'm considering options like Deep Freeze, but with different types of machines (Lenovo and Dell) due to COVID, I'm uncertain of the best approach. What methods are available to ensure users can't alter Wi-Fi, language settings, or other general configurations?

I remember using an older tool called SteadyState for similar issues. It may no longer be available, but there are likely modern alternatives that can restore settings after each session.

You might want to explore using Kiosk mode in Windows 11. It lets you define which apps users can access without putting the machines on your main domain. Also, consider putting them on a separate network with bandwidth management to prevent streaming issues.

Have you looked into BlueImage Intercafe? This tool acts as a disk filter and resets changes made by users every time the system reboots. It’s great for ensuring a consistent state.

Kiosk mode is a solid choice! Pair it with a patch management tool like Action1 to keep everything updated, and don't forget to isolate these machines on their own VLAN for added security.
