Hey everyone! I'm part of a large family, and we all share the same Apple ID and iCloud account. I'm almost 22 now, and even though no one really uses iCloud, I don't want my personal data and privacy getting mixed up with family stuff. For instance, my sister recently got a new iPad, and all my iMessage conversations ended up on her device without my knowledge or consent! How can I keep my privacy when it seems like everything gets shared through iCloud, even though I've turned off all the permissions? Should I create a new Apple ID? If I do, will I have to buy my own phone? What does that process look like? Please explain it simply, as I'm a bit new to all this.

You definitely need to create your own iCloud account to avoid these privacy issues. Sharing accounts can be a big security risk. Just making a new account won’t automatically fix everything though; you’ll need to manually reset your phone and possibly the other devices that are connected to the shared account. After that, you can set up your new iCloud account from scratch.
I totally get it! I have a similar issue where anytime I try to stop my number from syncing to my partner's iPad, it just comes back after a while. It's frustrating! Getting your own account really seems like the best way forward.
Yeah, it’s time to get your own Apple ID! It might seem like a hassle now, but it really will help you keep everything separate and private.
