How Can I Permanently Disable Windows 10 Updates on My Media Server?

I'm running Windows 10 Pro on my media server, and it's constantly installing updates, forcing restarts that disrupt everything. I've already disabled every update option I can find, but it still insists on updating on its own. I'm looking for a foolproof way to completely stop these updates for good. I don't care about security or missing patches; I just want control over my system. If it requires deleting system files or making significant changes, I'm willing to do that as I can access it remotely. My settings also show 'managed by your organization,' although I'm just a home user. Can anyone suggest a method to permanently disable Windows updates?

It sounds like your Windows key might be tied to a business or gray market license, which could be why updates are managed differently. For a Pro version, you should be able to block updates through Group Policy, but that feature might be restricted by your key. Disabling the Windows Update service could work temporarily, but it usually re-enables itself. Setting active hours and reboot prompts is also an option, though it won't completely stop updates. You might want to block Microsoft's update servers in your firewall; just beware that eventually, they could nag you about not installing updates for a while. Make sure you’re not using a KMS key, as that will deactivate Windows later.

Blocking via firewall sounds like a smart move! If you're using Pi-Hole already, look for lists online that can help block the update servers. As for the forced restart in seven days, maybe check if setting your active hours to something very inconvenient can help delay it. Good luck!
