How Can I Protect My Privacy When Sharing an Apple ID with My Family?

I'm part of a large family with six members, and we all use the same Apple ID and iCloud account. As I'm nearly 22, I really want to keep my data private—but it seems like Apple makes that impossible. For instance, my sister just got a new iPad, and suddenly all my iMessage conversations showed up on her device without me knowing it. I'm concerned about privacy and sharing information that I don't want others to see. How can I maintain my privacy when everything gets shared through iCloud, even after I've disabled permissions? Should I create a new Apple ID? If so, will I have to buy my own phone? What's the whole process? Help me understand like I'm a beginner!

You'll definitely need to set up your own iCloud account. Sharing an Apple ID is risky for your privacy. Just creating a new account is not enough; you might have to reset your phone and also potentially the other devices that are using the shared account. After that, you can create your own account for better privacy.

If I make my own account, can I still use Family Sharing features like Find My iPhone for my family's devices?
