I'm trying to register a new domain with Microsoft, but my session timed out at the billing page since I didn't have my card ready. When I went to register the domain again, I found out it said it wasn't available anymore. This might be because I hit 'Save' during the initial setup. I was offered a different name, but I really want the original one. Unfortunately, I can't access the admin portal because I can't pay for the domain. I work in IT, so I've tried to open a ticket using a client's admin portal, but I've been getting the runaround from support teams, and the billing team hung up on me. Is there any way to recover this orphaned domain? What should I say to get them to realize I just want to pay for the original domain?

When you hit save, your first admin account gets registered along with the Tenant. You should be able to log in with [email protected] even if payment didn’t go through. After that, set up your payment info and choose your licenses from there.
Honestly, they probably don’t care too much about the onmicrosoft domain. You can try your luck but it might not be worth it. Just keep this stuff in mind for future registrations.
I really hate when I learn things the hard way!
You could simplify things by making the domain name an acronym or something less serious. After all, only IT folks will see it anyway.
I get that, but I’m kinda attached to the original name. I might just have to give in soon!

Thanks! I remember I saved the password in my manager. Now it’s a login issue instead of a billing one. I might’ve locked it out with too many wrong attempts, so I’ll check back later.
