How can I reinstall Windows 11 from a USB without losing my files?

I recently had a frustrating experience with my new laptop that came with Windows 11. I attempted a system restore, which ended up causing my laptop to display a dark grey screen on startup. When I tried to restore from Startup Error mode, it just wouldn't let me. Now, my laptop won't boot up or allow me to reinstall Windows via the cloud install option. The only choice I have left is to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB that I created with the Windows Media Creation tool.

However, when I try to do this, the only option I see is that everything will be deleted, including my files, apps, and settings. There's no option to reinstall Windows while keeping my files. I made sure the USB has the correct version and language for my laptop (English UK), but I'm really hoping to find a way to reinstall without losing my files. Can anyone help me with this?

Honestly, if you can’t get into your laptop at all, the safest bet is to back up your files first and then do a fresh install. It might seem like a hassle, but it’s usually for the best in the long run.

I know I need to back things up, but accessing the files is a real challenge for me since the laptop won’t boot. Any tips on how to do that?

It sounds like you're in a tough spot! When the OS is really messed up, the repair options may disappear. If keeping your files is a priority, consider booting from a live OS, like Hiren's Boot CD or any Linux distro. That way, you can back up your data to an external drive before you proceed with a clean install of Windows.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check into Hiren's Boot.
