Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind and could use some advice. A while back, I set up my Apple ID when I was living in the U.S., and it didn't require a credit card at the time. Over the years, the rules changed, and now I need a permanent payment method for family sharing. Since I didn't have a card, my ex-mother-in-law let me use hers, but I always kept my account topped up to avoid any charges on her end. Now that I've moved away from the U.S. and separated from my ex, I'm trying to remove that credit card, but Apple won't let me do it! Any suggestions on how to get this sorted out?

You probably have some active subscriptions linked to your account. If you add your own payment card, it should allow you to remove the old one.
You need to link a payment card that’s in your name. It might be worth getting a disposable prepaid debit card, but make sure it’s U.S. issued. Another option is to change the country setting on your account and use a local credit or debit card instead. Check out the support link for guidance!
Thanks for the tip!
I tried that, but my card isn’t from the U.S., so it won't let me add it.
