My laptop just died, but I managed to take the hard drive out and connect it to a new laptop using a caddy. I have the BitLocker recovery key, but every time I want to access the drive, I have to enter that long recovery code, which is quite frustrating. I'm looking to either disable BitLocker completely or make it so that my new laptop recognizes the external drive as it does its internal drives (which already have BitLocker enabled but don't require a key). However, I can't find the external drive listed in the BitLocker encryption section of the control panel. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried searching online for a step-by-step guide? There are plenty of resources that can walk you through the process of managing BitLocker on external drives. It really helps to see visual aids too. Just make sure you're specific about your setup when you search!
It sounds like you're on the right path! First, make sure your old laptop's BitLocker recovery key is saved in your Microsoft account. You can check it out at account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey. If the key is there, that’s your ticket to getting the external drive unlocked without entering the code every time. If it's not, you may need to look into other accounts you might've used on the old laptop like Outlook or Xbox. Unfortunately, if you can't retrieve that key, recovering your data might require spending a lot on a data recovery expert.
I actually have the recovery key, but it's still asking for it every time. What I'm trying to do is align the new laptop's account with the old one to avoid this issue.

I did a search before posting, but couldn’t find anything that specifically addressed my issue. If you have any guides in mind, I’d appreciate it!
