Hey everyone! My partner's Samsung Galaxy S9 is about 7 years old and it's on its last legs. She mistakenly backed up only her SD card and all her precious photos are saved on the internal storage. I've got her a new S25, but the S9 isn't cooperating with the Samsung quick swap feature. It overheats while charging, is super laggy, and even restarts when performing basic tasks. I'm looking for ways to remotely extract the files from internal storage, but my Windows PC doesn't recognize the phone at all, even though it charges just fine. Is there a way to save those files before the phone gives up completely? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to uninstall as many apps as you can to free up some resources, dim the screen brightness, and give the Smart Switch another shot. Use a 5V/1A charger to help prevent the phone from overheating while it's trying to transfer.
If your S9 gets extremely slow and unresponsive, restarting it a couple of times could help. I have an S8 that acts similarly and a simple restart sometimes fixes the lag enough for me to use it without issue.
First, try plugging the phone into a PC and see if you can transfer the files. Make sure to back everything up on different drives and maybe even to the cloud. If your current cable isn't doing the job, consider getting a new Samsung cable or use Windows Link to wirelessly transfer files. Or look into using a transfer app if that fails.
Don't forget that you might need to explicitly allow data transfer on the phone. Also, verify that your USB cable is capable of data transfer by testing it with another device or trying a different one that you know works.
