How can I reset my hard drive if it’s causing boot issues?

I'm having trouble with my HDD. Every time I plug it into my PC, it prevents the computer from booting up properly, but everything works fine when it's unplugged. I'm looking for a way to wipe the HDD or reset it so it doesn't interfere with my system. Any suggestions?

Just a heads up, wiping the drive might not solve the problem if the hard drive is faulty. It could be worth checking it first. If you really want to wipe it, try booting from Hiren's Boot CD (or USB) and see if you can access any of the wiping tools there.

Do you have another Windows installation on that drive? Sometimes, that can cause conflicts if the drive isn't functioning properly.

Yes, but when I try to boot from the HDD, it doesn't turn on at all. Does that mean my hard drive is toast?

It sounds like your computer might be trying to boot from that hard drive. Check your UEFI settings and make sure it’s set to boot from your primary drive instead. If that’s the issue, simply changing the boot device should help!

I will try that, thanks!
