My phone speaker was accidentally soaked with egg yolk. I wiped it off fairly quickly, but I was busy and tried playing very loud audio afterward to shake out the residue. The phone still works, but the speaker sounds noticeably quieter than normal. What is the safest way to clean and restore it?

Rice probably won’t remove dried egg yolk and can leave dust or starch in the openings. Avoid poking the speaker with anything sharp or pouring water into it. A soft, dry brush can carefully clean the outside of the grille, but persistent muffling may require a repair shop to open and clean the phone.
If the phone has a genuine water-resistance rating, a careful rinse might be acceptable for some models, but egg yolk is sticky and rinsing can still cause damage—especially if the phone is cracked, repaired, or not rated for water. I wouldn’t wash it unless the manufacturer specifically says it’s safe.
Turn the phone off, remove the case, and gently blot any remaining residue. Let it dry completely in a well-ventilated place. Don’t keep playing loud audio, since that can push the yolk farther into the speaker or strain the driver. If the sound is still quiet once everything is dry, the speaker grille may need professional cleaning or replacement.
