I have an old LG GPL g441gb flip phone that I need to recycle, but the previous owner can't remember the password after so many years. I'm wondering how to remove any data before recycling it, or if it's even necessary to worry about that. Am I overthinking this?

You might not want to overlook what’s on the phone. Even if it’s old, there could be some personal stuff, like contacts or messages. If you really want to clear it, try the default passwords like 1234 or 0000. You can also do a factory reset by holding the power button and either volume button when it's off.
If you're okay with losing the data, just turn off the phone and press the power button along with either the volume up or down button until the reset option shows up. Alternatively, pull out the microSD card—often it's not locked with a password and you can still access it.
Since it's such an old phone, the best bet is to just take out the SIM and microSD card before recycling. That way, you won’t need to stress about the data anymore. Quick and easy! Just do that and you're all set!
