How can I salvage a corrupted ChatGPT thread and continue my conversation?

I've been having a lengthy conversation with ChatGPT, but the thread got corrupted. It keeps getting stuck on a message I sent, and when I try to send new messages, it just replies to the corrupted one. If I close the app, everything after the corrupted message disappears. This conversation is really important to me, but the entire chat has grown too big to transfer easily—I have it saved as a text file with 20,000 lines and around 680,000 characters. Is there any way to transfer it to a new thread or salvage the existing one?

Try zooming way out and taking screenshots of the conversation. You can compile these screenshots into a PDF. It may not be perfect but it can help retain the context you're looking for.

If you have the text file, consider uploading it to Gemini (which has a larger context window) and asking it for a summary that you can use to continue the conversation with ChatGPT.

I tried using Gemini, but it only provided a recap up to a certain point. I even threw a PDF at it, but it stopped at page 40 out of like 490.

You could start a new chat and say, "This is a continuation of..." then ask for a summary to see if it aligns with your previous discussion.

I tried that, but it just said it couldn't access the earlier chats.
