I recently received an unusual request from our CEO regarding our conference room setup. We currently have a KVM with a docking station and a desktop connected to two large TVs, along with a rally bar connected to the desktop. The request is to allow two separate laptops to connect at the end of the table: one to each TV. However, we also need the flexibility to use either laptop or the desktop with both TVs. I've been considering matrix switches but I'm not fully confident in that area. Any recommendations on how to simplify this setup would be greatly appreciated!

You should check out Extron or Crestron products; they can handle a wide range of use cases. Just keep in mind the installation costs can be pretty steep!
What's your budget like? For a quick solution, Monoprice has 2x2 HDMI matrixes that are affordable but a bit slower. If you want something more robust, try AVProEdge's ConferX models, they're decent but pricey. Also consider Aurora Reax solutions which allow for programming and are a newer option that has touchscreen capabilities. Alternatively, Visionary Solutions offers IP KVM over AVoIP, which is great but a bit on the expensive side.
I haven’t been given a budget yet, which makes it tougher to plan.
If it's just for presentations, you could use different inputs on the TVs for each laptop and desktop combo. Just label the HDMI ports clearly. But I understand if your users struggle with that kind of thing, it can get frustrating dealing with input issues!
Yeah, user confusion is a big issue; they often just leave it on the wrong input and we end up with tickets.
Engaging a dedicated conference room technology company could save you a lot of headaches. Since it's the CEO's room, they might be willing to invest more for reliability. A nice Crestron system can handle everything you need and provides a long-term solution without constant issues.
I wish we could go that route, but our IT manager prefers to keep things in-house. I'll raise it though!
From experience, setting up complex systems can lead to more problems down the line. A professional might be worth considering.
What you're looking for is essentially a 4x2 video matrix switch. This would let you connect four devices (dock, desktop, laptop 1, laptop 2) and output to two TVs, allowing much flexibility. Just don’t forget to check for USB passthrough support for the rally bar!
I figured as much! Thanks for the heads up on pricing.
