Hey everyone! I'm looking to set up a phone number like the ones you hear in games like God of War or Fallout, where you can call and get fun automated messages. I'm not really sure how to go about this or if it's affordable. Any tips on how to make this happen would be awesome! If this isn't the right spot for this question, please let me know where I might find better advice. Thanks!

Just a heads up, there’s no such thing as a completely fake phone number if you want it to actually receive calls. What you can do instead is get a VOIP number that people can call.

Those funny phone numbers are usually real numbers connected to an automated answering service. If you're going full DIY and up for a challenge, FreePBX might be the way to go. Just remember, you'll need a SIP/VoIP provider for setting up your PBX (private branch exchange) to connect with actual phone services. You could even hide a phone number in your game for players to discover!

Twilio is a great option for this! You can use it to answer calls and play pre-recorded audio messages. They even offer text-to-speech features, plus you can create menus or custom logic for your responses. If you're trying to keep costs down, you could look into self-hosting options like Fonoster or Asterisk, but keep in mind you'll still need to buy a real number to connect to your setup.
