I'm trying to figure out how to remove certain devices from my trusted devices list for two-factor authentication (2FA) but still want them to remain linked to my iCloud account. I have an old iPhone that I mainly use just for taking pictures and an iPad that serves as 'cat TV' and allows me to show photos on a bigger screen. They don't leave the house, but I'm frustrated with having to authorize things on my phone using these devices when I'm not home. I want to keep syncing photos and downloading apps on both devices, just not get 2FA prompts from them.

Unfortunately, if your devices are signed into iCloud, they automatically qualify as trusted devices for 2FA. The only exceptions are Windows PCs and Apple TVs, but everything else from iPhones to Macs is considered trusted. While it can be a hassle, having those devices available for 2FA can actually come in handy in certain situations.
It might be that your devices are not updated to the latest software, which can lead to constant authentication alerts. Personally, I have several devices but only get 2FA requests when I add or remove one, or if I need to access iCloud data. In the case your iPhone gets stolen, having a trusted device with access to iCloud can be invaluable.
