I've been dealing with a frustrating issue for four years where my phone number seems to have been mistakenly used by someone named Nancy. At first, I thought they were just random wrong number texts, but they quickly escalated into messages about doctor's appointments and bank notifications, even though I don't have a bank account. I've also received a lot of texts about contracting jobs at a specific address in Minnesota and, more recently, offers for roofing services. I never pick up calls from unknown numbers but have a few voicemails addressed to Nancy. Is there any way to fix this situation? I've tried responding to those who text me, but nobody seems to reply. Is this common, and what options do I have?

You could consider changing your number if it’s really bothering you, but that could open up a whole new world of issues. I once changed my number and ended up with nonstop political messages! Otherwise, you might just have to continue ignoring the messages or texting 'STOP' where you can.
It sounds like Nancy might have accidentally provided your number on some websites, which can lead to it getting added to marketing lists. It’s annoying, but I'd say just ignore the spam. I get a ton of phishing calls too — it seems to be a common issue these days! Some government efforts are trying to crack down on these spammers, but it’s a slow process.

Yeah, I didn’t really mind them until the voicemails about medical appointments started coming in. That felt too real and unsettling.
