How Can I Stop My Dad from Accessing Our WiFi?

I've recently found out that my dad has been watching the WiFi at my mom's house for about five years, despite never having the password and only visiting once. He claims he can see everything happening on all devices, including phones and consoles. I haven't spoken to him in years, and my mom and stepdad are aware of the situation. We've changed routers and updated passwords, but I'm not sure if that has stopped him. What steps can I take to prevent him from accessing our WiFi again? Would using a VPN help?

You should definitely check your router's web interface. That's where you can see all devices connected to your network. If there's anything suspicious, block it. Also, the standard admin address is usually something like 192.168.0.1, and don't forget to check the password on the router sticker.

As long as he's not physically nearby to hack into your router, he should have no way of monitoring your activities. If you use a VPN, it encrypts your traffic, making it impossible for anyone to see what you're doing online. That could definitely help keep your browsing private.

It sounds like he's just trying to freak you out. Even if he somehow got access to the WiFi, he couldn't monitor everything on your devices. He might just be bluffing. I'd suggest changing your WiFi password as a precaution though, just to be safe.

Honestly, it sounds like he might be trying to assert control through fear. Many people don’t bother to secure their WiFi properly, so hacking in is actually easier than expected. Just keep your passwords strong, and remember, a VPN can offer extra security.
