Hey everyone! Yesterday, I downloaded an .exe file onto my computer, and later found out from VirusTotal results shared on a forum that it was identified as a RAT (Remote Access Trojan). Unfortunately, I didn't have a USB drive handy, so I reformatted my computer using the local download option for Windows. I'm now wondering what the chances are that a RAT could still be lingering on my machine after this? I read that the likelihood is around 10-20%, according to GPT and Grok. Also, it's mentioned that the chance of the virus affecting the BIOS/UEFI is nearly impossible. Any thoughts?

You did a smart thing by formatting your system, but keep in mind that some malware might leave remnants. Also, it’s true that RATs typically can’t infect the BIOS/UEFI easily. To be safe, regularly update your security software and perform frequent scans. Staying vigilant is key after any potential malware incidents!
If you suspect malware like a RAT on your computer, your best bet is to run a thorough scan with a reliable antivirus or anti-malware tool. They can usually detect and remove any lingering threats. Remember, reformatting only cleans the active system but might not catch everything, especially if the malware has embedded itself in other areas. Just keep your software updated and consider using tools that specialize in deep scans for peace of mind.
That’s good advice! Make sure to check for any suspicious processes running in the background, and if you're really concerned, you might consider a clean install with a bootable USB.

Absolutely! And don't forget to change your passwords afterward, especially if they could have been compromised.
