How can I unlock files on a shared network drive at work?

Hey everyone! I work in an office where we save all our files to a shared network drive, and I'm facing a frustrating issue. Whenever a coworker creates a file, it seems to lock it to them, which means I can't edit or even move those files. For example, if I create a document in 'K:Documents/project a/banner.doc', my coworker can't touch that file or its folder without my help since it's locked to me. If I try to open someone else's document, it's read-only, forcing me to save it as a new file, which leads to a messy situation with multiple versions like doc1.doc, doc1-new.doc, etc. Is there a setting I can adjust to allow me to manage my coworkers' files without constantly bothering them? I don't have admin rights on my computer, which complicates matters further. Thanks for any help!

Could you share what make or model of the network drive you're using? Is it set up on a Windows server or something else? More info will help diagnose the issue better.

I think it's a Windows file sharing setup. It was fine until recently; then suddenly, we couldn't move each other's folders, and now all files are locked. It's frustrating!
