How can I unlock the BIOS on my Dell Latitude 5430?

Asked By CuriousCat92 On

I recently bought a Dell Latitude 5430 from Facebook Marketplace and I didn't check it properly. Now I'm stuck because the BIOS is locked, and I wanted to install Linux on it. Does anyone know how to unlock the BIOS? Is there any way besides going through Dell directly? Or can a third party help me out?

You might want to check if there's a way to reset the BIOS settings by using the motherboard. Look up your model and see if there are jumper pins you can short. That might do the trick!

Honestly, the best way is to reach out to the seller for the password, but if they've ghosted you, that’s tough! You could also try looking for master unlock codes based on your service tag. Dell has instructions for that, so check their support page.

Yeah, I tried reaching out but got no response. Might have to search for those master codes.

I think you're looking to disable Secure Boot, right? That's usually a common step. But make sure you know that if the BIOS is completely locked down, there might not be a straightforward way to change settings. Just a tip: Googling your specific model could lead you to helpful guides!

It's not just about Secure Boot for me; I literally can’t change any settings. The BIOS is totally locked!
