Hey everyone! I have an aging Dell XPS 8300 that still runs Photoshop and Illustrator CS5, which I've needed to keep using because my job involves creating graphic templates for clients who are also using old software. Unfortunately, it seems like I've misplaced the software keys for these versions. My computer is starting to struggle a bit, and I'm thinking about upgrading the RAM from 8GB to 16GB or possibly 32GB to see if that helps. If that doesn't work, is there a way to clone everything to a newer machine without having to reinstall my old programs, so it runs smoother? I know these might be basic questions, but I'd really appreciate any help! Thanks!

You can clone your current drive to a new PC, but beware! When you launch your Adobe software on the new machine, it'll likely try to re-authorize licenses. I faced this issue with Adobe Acrobat Professional and couldn’t get it working again because Adobe has shifted to a subscription model for newer versions. One workaround could be setting up a virtual machine of your existing drive on the new PC, but it might still prompt for re-authorization. Just a heads up!
An SSD upgrade can work wonders! I recently put a Samsung SSD 870 EVO 1TB in my old 2009 Dell Studio, and with 24GB of RAM, everything runs so much better. If you're thinking about improving the performance, I’d definitely recommend going for the SSD in addition to the RAM upgrade.
Yeah, I totally get your concern. Adobe's licensing can be a pain with old versions. If you're stuck with the older software, upgrading to newer hardware might not guarantee smooth sailing. You've got to be cautious about the licensing issue.
