I'm looking for advice on how to enhance my gaming performance, particularly in Fortnite, where I've been encountering stuttering issues. My current specs include a Ryzen 5 3600, an RTX 2080 Super, and 16GB of dual-channel 3600MHz RAM, all housed in a small form factor build. My monitor runs at a resolution of 1440x3440 at 120Hz, but my CPU usage is consistently maxed out while my GPU usage stays between 50-70%. Despite having verified that my XMP profile is enabled and ensuring my drivers are updated, I'm still struggling to maintain a stable 120Hz. Given the current hardware prices and the less-than-ideal scenario of a complete rebuild, I'm hoping there might be an efficient upgrade path for either the CPU, GPU, RAM, or perhaps a combination to boost my performance, especially for ultrawide gaming.

It sounds like your Ryzen 5 3600 could be the main bottleneck here, especially in CPU-intensive games like Fortnite. I’d recommend considering an upgrade to the Ryzen 7 5700X3D if you can find it. Also, make sure your RAM is truly running at that 3600MHz speed since that can significantly impact performance with older Ryzen chips.
Definitely sounds like your CPU is holding back the performance. The 5700X3D or even the 5800X3D would be solid upgrades, but they are hard to find since they’re no longer in production. You might want to consider the 5700X as a more budget-friendly option that's still capable of boosting your gaming experience.
Thanks for the suggestion! Is the 5700X3D still worth it at $270? What do you think?
XMP is already enabled on my RAM, so that’s all set! With the 5700X3D priced around $270 now, do you still think it offers enough value compared to when it was cheaper?
