I built my home PC back in 2015 and have been using the same version of Windows ever since. I got my Windows key from a friend and I'm currently stuck on an older version. Now, I need to use a specific Windows application to access work files from home, but I've heard that I might need to upgrade to Windows 11 for that. Can someone guide me on how to purchase and activate the upgrade without losing any of my current files?

It depends on which version of Windows you're running right now. If you're on Windows 10, you can usually upgrade to Windows 11 directly through Windows Update, which keeps your files intact. However, if you're on Windows 8 or 8.1, you might need to do a fresh install to upgrade. Make sure you back up all your important files before you proceed.
Regarding the Windows App you mentioned, you don't necessarily need Windows 11. That app sounds a lot like an RDP client, and you can actually use it with Windows 10 Pro or even with versions like 8.1 Pro. If you're on a Pro version, just make sure Remote Desktop is enabled in settings, and you'll be good to go. Just remember to set up your access if you're using it outside your local network.
