I'm transitioning to Linux and I'm wondering how I can effectively use Google Drive on my new setup. I have a Google One account for extra storage, and I'm used to the seamless experience on Windows where the Drive app syncs my Documents folder. Is there a similar solution for Linux, or should I just stick to using the Drive website? I'm planning to install Ubuntu LTS, Kubuntu, or Mint Cinnamon this weekend, and I'm curious about the options available for integrating Google Drive. Any insights would be appreciated!

I've been using Insync for Google Drive on Linux, and it's been fantastic! You can choose between one-way or two-way sync, and it lets you organize your files how you want. They offer a free trial too, so you can test it out.
If you're using GNOME, there's actually an account connector built right in, so you don't have to switch anything since you're already enjoying Ubuntu! Just add your Google account in the Online Accounts section and you should be good to go!
I tried that and ran into issues where I couldn't save or edit files properly. I've heard Expandrive works better, though.
If you're feeling adventurous, you could develop your own solution using a cloud storage provider that offers API access. But for most users, sticking to existing tools like those mentioned here makes more sense!
Thanks for the suggestion! I prefer going with what's reliable and out-of-the-box, so I appreciate all these recommendations.
You can also access Google Drive through the file manager without needing a specific applet. Just go to the Accounts section in your settings and add your Google account. It's pretty straightforward!
Cinnamon has 'Online Accounts' as well, which integrates Google Drive directly into Nemo (the file manager). Just log in, and it should show up under the Network section. Makes accessing files super easy!
That's cool! I worry about giving up my Office 2024, but if I can use Google Docs or LibreOffice without hassle, it might work.
Totally agree! I've needed something reliable, and Insync has really helped me manage my cluttered Drive.
