How Do I Find IT Jobs on Boats or Offshore Rigs?

I'm really interested in working in an IT role that keeps me on a boat or an offshore rig. If anyone here has experience with an IT job in that environment, I'd love to hear how you found it. The ocean has always called to me, and while I don't want to give up my established career, vacations just aren't cutting it anymore!

If you're serious about it, start looking into offshore drilling companies. Check out their websites and look at the careers section; they usually have positions available.

I've spent time working on land rigs in the Arctic, so I can relate! The pay can be really good, but the work-life balance... not so much. It was a fun experience in my 20s, but I don't think I'd want to do it in my 30s.

The size of the boat really makes a difference. If you're on a big ship, it's actually not too bad. But on a smaller craft, like a Coast Guard Cutter, it can feel pretty cramped. Just a heads-up—if you're working with server racks, you may want to be short and fit since space is tight! Once you adjust, ship life has its perks, but privacy is pretty much nonexistent.

I've worked in the Navy, which had its tech roles. It's definitely a unique experience!
