How Do I Properly Install Linux on My New Laptop?

I'm planning to buy a new laptop with a 1TB SSD that currently has Windows 11. I want to completely replace it with Pop!_OS as my sole operating system. I have a few questions regarding this process:

1. Should I update the BIOS after installing Pop!_OS?
2. Apart from graphics drivers, will I need to install anything else?
3. How can I set up my secondary drive so I don't have to enter a password every time I want to access it, similar to how it works in Windows?
4. Does the desktop environment impact performance? For instance, is KDE more RAM-intensive than GNOME?

It's a good idea to update your BIOS before installing a new OS like Pop!_OS. Also, consider looking into other options like CachyOS or Fedora if you're after the latest packages since Pop!_OS hasn't received updates in a while. Just a heads-up!

Thanks for the tip! I've been using Fedora on my home PC for a couple of months but was looking for a change. Do you think Manjaro would be a good choice too?
