I'm trying to convert some old files with a .22 extension back into photos. I found out these files come from an Android device and might be linked to a Linux format. I've read that the original photo format, whether it was .png or .jpg, could influence recovery. My files are named with some numbers followed by .anBn.22, and I'm not sure if the .anBn part matters. Are these files recoverable? What steps can I take to get my photos back? Or are they encrypted and beyond help?

Have you tried opening the files in different programs? Sometimes, even if the file isn't directly recognized, other software might handle it differently. It's worth a shot!
Have you considered renaming the file extension to .jpg or .png? It could help if you can remember the original format of the photos. I know it can be tough not recalling what they were initially.
I tried renaming to both .jpg and .png, but that didn't work either. Honestly, I've been trying to figure this out for about five years and I can't remember what format they were originally in.
I opened the files with text viewers, but the text is a jumble of characters—definitely not readable. I also tried 7zip and a media player but no luck.
