How Do I Stop Family Sharing from Making My Dad Pay for My Subscriptions?

I'm an adult trying to buy a GoodNotes subscription, but it seems like I have to get permission from my dad every time I want to make a purchase. I've checked my settings, and family sharing is supposed to be off, but I'm still getting prompted for approval. I want to be able to buy things without needing to ask him for a code or having him charged for my purchases. Can anyone help me figure this out?

It sounds like what's triggering the permission requests is the 'Ask to Buy' feature, which is specific to children's accounts. If you have an adult account, you shouldn't be seeing that. I recommend checking your purchase sharing settings in the family sharing options; make sure it’s turned off for your account. Thanks! I double-checked, and it still seems like the Ask to Buy feature is on. I really don’t want him involved in my purchases.

Is there a way to keep purchase sharing active for some family members but not for others? That might give you the flexibility you're looking for without cutting your dad out entirely.

You can control what you're sharing by tweaking the purchase sharing settings. If you turned off purchase sharing, your dad shouldn't be charged for anything you buy. Just make sure you have that set up correctly; it shouldn't affect other services like Apple Music or iCloud unless you specifically turn those off too.
