How do I update my old iMac that’s having connectivity issues?

I'm trying to update an older iMac, but I'm running into some trouble. The last software update check I did was in 2023, but every time I try to sign in with my Apple ID, it says there's no connection available, even though I'm connected to the internet. I'm looking for some advice on what my next steps should be to resolve this and successfully access updates through the App Store. Any help would be appreciated!

I’ve worked with AppleCare for several years, so I can guide you through this process easily. Let’s tackle this step by step to get your iMac updated!

First off, go to the Apple menu and select 'About This Mac'. Take a screenshot of that. Make sure to blur out your Serial Number, but we definitely need to know the model number. This will help us determine the latest macOS version your iMac can handle.
