How do Unicode characters behave when copied and pasted?

I copied and pasted a long string of characters into Discord, and when I try to paste one of those characters back, it shows up as a box (for example: ba) on Windows. I noticed that it works fine on iOS. Could this be related to the way different programs handle Unicode characters? Where can I find more information about this?

It mostly depends on whether the font you’re using supports those Unicode characters. You can check sites like unicodeplus.com to see if a specific character is supported and what Unicode block it belongs to. It's interesting to see all the quirky characters added to the Unicode standard!

Thanks for the info! I always thought characters just automatically showed up.
