How Long Can AM4 Processors Keep Up with Gaming?

I'm curious about the longevity of the AM4 platform for gaming. Do you think there will ever be a point where games will strictly require AM5 processors, rendering AM4 obsolete?

If you're gaming on something like a 5700X3D between 60 and 144Hz, you're set for at least another 3 years, no problem. Those chips still perform well in most current games, though the requirements for new titles will evolve.

Would a Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 6600 combo still work for good 1080p gaming?

You'll be fine if you're okay with medium settings at 1440p! You might want to adjust your settings over time, but it'll hold up.

AM4 will be fine for many more years as long as you're not chasing after the latest and greatest games. I think the 5800X3D will still hold its own for gaming until something significantly better comes out. Just be prepared for eventual bottlenecking as new titles require more power.

I think you can get 5-6 more years out of the high-end AM4 chips before seriously considering an upgrade.

Totally agree! It's amazing how well older CPUs can perform, especially if paired with a decent GPU.

AM4 is going to be around for quite a while! With powerful CPUs like the Ryzen 5700X3D and 5800X3D, I'd say it's more or less immortal for gaming at this point since they give it a solid lifespan. It'll likely last at least another 4 years without feeling outdated.

I agree, but saying immortal is a stretch. Nothing lasts forever, right?

But isn’t it hard to find a 5800X3D right now? I did a quick search and came up empty.

Honestly, I haven't upgraded my CPU in 7 years and it’s still running fine for the games I play. I think people overestimate how quickly hardware becomes outdated. Everyone has different expectations, but if you have a 5700X3D or similar, you should be good for several years to come!

Right? I'm still using a Ryzen 1700X and a GTX 2070, and it's holding up decent!

I used to have an i5-4690K, and I waited years before upgrading. It really depends on how much you want to max out settings.
