I recently bought a gaming PC from a friend for $2,000. He hardly used it, and it comes with some solid specs: a 4080 Super GPU, an i9-14900K CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and 2 TB of storage. It's just over a year old. I'm mainly playing Fortnite at high settings (240 FPS at 1440p) and doing some schoolwork. Given this setup, how long do you think it will realistically last me if I want to continue gaming at 1440p?

Your build could potentially last a decade with the right care! My current rig is about five years old, and it's still serving me well. Just keep it maintained and stay updated on tech advances.
4-5 years should be about right for AAA games at 1440p high settings. You can always tweak your settings down a bit or use DLSS for better performance later on!
Honestly, it’ll last you until it no longer meets your needs. My own $1,200 build has held up for about 6-7 years, and I hope to stretch this new one even longer!
Totally agree! I've had a lower-end PC since 2020 and only thought about upgrading now because some new games won't run well on it anymore. It's been reliable for five years!
Thanks so much, everyone! I figured it would last a while, but it’s great to get confirmation. It really felt like a good deal!
You should be good for years. I was gaming at 1440p with an older setup (i5 4th Gen and a GTX 970) for about a decade. Sure, my FPS wasn't the best anymore, but I still enjoyed my games!
Any timeline is just a guess. You have a solid build, so you should be fine for a while, likely 3-10 years, depending on the games you want to play and how tech evolves.
Yeah, a BIOS update is also a good idea for your setup. Those Intel 14th Gen CPUs can run into issues if not updated!
