How Long Does It Take to Change a Domain Name for Our Email System?

I'm looking for advice on how long it typically takes for an internal IT department to change the domain name for an organization with over 100 users using cloud email services. What potential pitfalls should management be aware of? Are there some best practices to follow? I've heard that it's recommended to operate the old domain as primary and the new one as alternate for at least a month, but we only care about email; web and SEO are outside our scope.

The timeframe really depends on your helpdesk size. If you have around 150 users and only a few people to handle support, it’s best to get everything working first and then set a date to switch. Focus on making sure email deliverability isn’t disrupted, and try to keep logins simple to avoid user frustration. Other issues can be dealt with as they come up.

I get that end-user issues will arise, but my big worry is about deliverability and spam filtering. Those are the areas we may not fully consider since switching domains isn't something we do often.
