How Long Does It Take to Convert NTFS to FAT32?

I have a 2TB drive that's completely full and I can't back up the files anywhere. I'm using AOMEI NTFS to FAT32 Converter to convert the drive without losing any data, but it's been running for 6 hours and is only at 8%. Does anyone know how long this is supposed to take? Is it normal for it to be this slow?

Honestly, you might be better off just getting a new 2TB drive. By the time you finish converting your current drive, you could have received and set up a new one, formatted it to FAT32, and transferred all your data over.

I don't really get why you want to switch to FAT32 since NTFS is better. That said, if you're using a tool that preserves data during the conversion, it can take a while, especially with all that data packed on a full drive. It might be slower than you expect because it has to map out where everything is on the drive, which can take time—definitely a lot longer than just formatting normally, which is pretty much instant but wipes everything.

Got it, that makes sense. I thought it would be faster, but 6 hours at only 8% is concerning!
