I'm in a bit of a bind! I bought a new iPhone 17 for my mom, and she created a new Apple ID but forgot the password. Now the phone is stuck in activation mode. I've submitted a request to Apple for activation removal, providing the receipt and all that, and they've given me a case number. I'm just looking for advice on how long it typically takes to recover the iPhone after such a request. Any thoughts?

Just a heads up, it's a good idea for your mom to note down her password next time and share it with you, too!
Usually, activation lock support requests are processed in under a week, provided all your documentation checks out. Once that's done, you can reset the phone using a computer, and it'll be good to set up again.
So, I just need to use iTunes for that?
Have you tried the password reset already? There's some good guidance for that on Apple's support site.
I did try that, but it said I'd have to wait 24 hours. I think it's easier to just get the device reset this time. I'll log in with my own Apple account to manage it better later.

Yeah, it was a Christmas gift from me, and I feel bad that it turned into this mess. I probably should have set it up myself!
