How Many Stories Should I Prepare for a Junior IT Project Manager Panel Interview?

I have an upcoming panel interview for a junior-level Project Manager position, consisting of a Security Director, DevOps Manager, IT Administrator, and others, followed by a final round with the CISO. I'm really nervous since this is my first panel interview, and it's a big opportunity for me. So far, I've prepared 5 STAR stories to discuss. My main concern is whether 5 stories are enough for a panel of 4-5 people, or should I aim for something like 8-10 instead? I'm also curious about what senior technical leaders typically look for in candidates at the junior level.

Honestly, a panel for a junior role does seem a bit over the top, but don't let that throw you! Focus on having organic, conversational stories that demonstrate your experiences. You don’t need to have a specific number of stories locked down—just be ready to share your key experiences, address any challenges you faced, and emphasize what you learned from them. This way, you'll seem genuine and engaged, which they’ll appreciate more than just a mechanical recitation of stories.

Exactly! It's more about presenting your thoughts and experiences fluidly rather than just piling on stories. They’ll want to see if you can communicate effectively.

You know, aiming for a minimum number of stories doesn't make much sense. Interviews can often involve scenario-based questions where they’ll want to see how you think on your feet. Prepare broadly with your experiences, so you can pull from various stories depending on the questions they ask.

I think 5 is a solid number, especially for a junior role. Just remember, it’s about how you communicate those stories that counts. Make sure you convey your thought process and how you handle challenges, rather than just throwing out a bunch of anecdotes.
