I've been using a 1600x900 LCD monitor for around 15 years, connected through an HDMI to VGA adapter, and I'm planning to switch to a 1920x1080 LED monitor. My current monitor is a 20-inch model, and the new one I'm considering is 22 inches. I mostly use it for gaming and I'm looking for a resolution improvement, rather than a refresh rate boost since I'm fine with 60fps. I really want to enjoy newer games like Final Fantasy 16 without the pixelation issues I currently have. I tried AMD's super resolution to upscale to 1080p and it helped a lot, so I'm wondering how significant the jump will be in terms of resolution quality.

The jump in resolution from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 will definitely be noticeable, but keep in mind that since you're also increasing the screen size, the difference won't be overwhelmingly huge. The pixel density changes from 92 ppi to 100 ppi, which is a small increase. Games are optimized for 1080p, so you'll likely enjoy better visuals overall, especially with your focus on playing newer titles. But you probably won't be blown away by the difference.
Yeah, I had a similar experience with FF16. At 1080p, the pixelated textures were way less of an issue. I just wanted to play the games as they intended without poor graphics. You should be fine even with the 2-inch size increase.
