How to Access My Ubuntu Laptop with a Broken Screen?

I have an ASUS TUF 15 laptop that got water damaged recently, and the screen is completely dead. I can boot into Linux using an external monitor, but I'm having trouble logging in. Is there a way to force the external monitor to mirror my laptop display instead of extending it?

If you're comfortable with it, pulling the drive is a straightforward method. Once you have it out, you can connect it to another laptop using a USB adapter.

Have you tried using SSH to access your files? That way, you won't need to pull out the hard drive. Also, sometimes removing the hard drive and using it in another laptop can save you some hassle if you can't get in via SSH.

I was hoping to find a way to access it without removing the drive. I'll definitely give SSH a shot next.

I tried SSH, but sadly it didn’t work for me.

Another tip is to try using the F4 key on your laptop. It should let you toggle the monitor options, but it might not work if you're stuck at the login screen.
