I've had my GPU for about seven months, and while I noticed some coil whine, it wasn't too distracting. However, since I got a new 240Hz 1440p monitor to go alongside my 1080p 144Hz monitor, the coil whine has become significantly louder, both when idle and during games. I've tried testing different frame rates, including 20, 240, and unlimited FPS, but the whine persists regardless of what I'm doing. Interestingly, when I alt-tab in a game, the whine stops completely, but it continues when I'm on the desktop.
I've also attempted undervolting from 500 to 2600 MHz at 1065 mV and set a -10% power limit, but nothing seems to help. The noise is particularly loud in games like Valorant and War Thunder, but much quieter in titles like Among Us and RDR2 at max settings.
Here are my specs:
- Sapphire Pure 7800XT (bought used)
- 7800X3D
- Corsair RM850e
I've heard the Corsair RM850e might be causing coil whine, but I only hear it coming from the GPU and it doesn't vary with power draw, whether it's 20 watts or 200. Any advice on how to reduce this noise would be greatly appreciated!

Coil whine can be really annoying! Unfortunately, there’s no solid fix for it. While undervolting or overclocking may have some impact, the best way to tackle it might be to limit FPS or adjust settings until it becomes less bothersome. Sometimes, it’s just about learning to cope with it!
Have you considered capping your FPS? I noticed that when I left mine uncapped, my coil whine got worse. Try setting it to match your monitor's refresh rate or turning on Vsync. It could help reduce the noise significantly!
The coil whine is often a matter of luck, unfortunately. You might want to try a different PSU, as sometimes certain combinations of PSUs and GPUs amplify the whine. Just keep in mind that it’s not a guaranteed fix, but it’s worth a shot!

I've set mine to 240 FPS in AMD Adrenalin, and when I switched to 120 FPS, it didn’t seem to solve the issue for me.
