How to Ensure I Have All the Right Parts for My First PC Build Without Overspending?

I'm building my first PC and really want everything to go smoothly. I'm worried that I might not have all the necessary parts, like extra cables or screws. Plus, I'm unsure if I'm spending too much on certain components. What do I need to make sure I have everything, and how can I tell if I'm overspending?

Check out pcpartpicker! It's super handy for putting together your build; it also checks compatibility for you. Most screws and cables should be included with your components, so you should be good there.

Generally, you need to focus on these eight key components: CPU, cooler, motherboard, RAM, GPU, storage, case, and power supply. Don't stress about cables and screws; they usually come with the parts you buy. Just make sure you have a Philips head screwdriver for assembly.

If you’re buying new parts, you’ll get everything you need for the build. But if you want extras like screws or cables, you can easily find those online or at a local store. As for spending, if your CPU is pricier than your GPU, that might be a red flag. Also, if your motherboard's over $150, you might be paying too much.

Yeah, that’s a solid rule of thumb! And don’t forget to consider what you're using the PC for. If it's just for casual gaming at 1080p, you can get away with a budget of around $700.
